Job Applications for Global COE Postdoctoral Fellow (2009 - 2011)

The GCOE (Global Center of Excellence) program "Fostering top leaders in mathematics -- broadening the core and exploring new ground" was awarded to the Department of Mathematics (Math Dept) and Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences (RIMS), Kyoto University. As a part of the program, we are seeking GCOE Postdoctoral Fellows with the following specifications:

  1. Seeking for a few GCOE Postdoctoral Fellows
  2. Research (Employment) Duties: Research in Mathematics and assistance to education in the graduate school.
  3. Qualifications:
    1. The applicant should have received a PhD or equivalent by the time of employment (by April 1, 2009).
    2. The applicant should not hold another position at the time of employment.
  4. The expected period of employment begins on April 1, 2009, and will last through March 31, 2011. Renewal is possible for exceptionally good fellows but only within the maximal period of GCOE program.
  5. Minimal salary of 300,000 yen per month will be paid according to employment guidelines of Kyoto University. A fellow may have overseas business trips if approved by the GCOE committee.
  6. Affiliation: Successful candidates will have a position either in the Math Dept. or RIMS of Kyoto University.
  7. Deadline for applications: December 19, 2008.
  8. Documents to be submitted: Each applicant should send the following documents by registered mail or express delivery and indicate on the envelope that it contains documents for Global COE Postdoctoral Fellow application. (The documents can also be brought directly to RIMS.) The Fellows will be selected through submitted documents. Interviews may be held depending on circumstances.

      2. A summary of the applicant's research achievements as well as future research plans, list of publications (including those to be published),
      3. Names and e-mail addresses of three researchers (including recommender) who can be contacted for references.
    2. At least one letter of recommendation, sealed by the recommender him/herself, to be submitted with the application. (Mailing separately by registered mail or express delivery is also appropriate.)
    3. For an applicant who has not received a PhD or an equivalent degree at the time of submission, a letter written by the PhD adviser indicating the expected date of acquisition. The letter should be sealed by the adviser him/herself, to be submitted with the application. (Mailing separately by registered mail or express delivery is also appropriate.)
    4. Copies of reprints or preprints.
    Above items I,II,III should be printed or typed on A4 or letter size paper, with applicant's name printed on each documents. The submitted documents will not be returned.
