Abstract | The lecture series will present and discuss a number of recent numerical methods that allow one to find and track global invariant objects arising in dynamical systems. The emphasis is on global stable and unstable manifolds of flows and Poincare maps and their interactions in homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits. The idea behind our approach is to view the global invariant object in question as the solution of a family of suitably chosen boundary value problems. The resulting numerical problem is well posed and its discretization can be solved reliably with established error bounds. In particular, we find and continue solution families by using the path-following and collocation routines of the package AUTO.
